Introduction to Figure Drawing Part 2: Faces, Form, and Shadow with David Bailin

November 8 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

Tuesday-Thursday, November 8-10, 10am-12pm

3 sessions | $140 for members, $150 for non-members + $20 model fee

This workshop is for the artist who has already taken Intro to Figure Drawing at PAAM, or has some experience working with a model.

The focus will be on strengthening skills around shadow, form building, and rendering the face–expressions and structure. And if time permits, we will practice adding the figure in a background. We use pencil and charcoal—simple materials—to achieve a simple goal: building confidence and competence in your figure drawing.

ABOUT THE TEACHING ARTIST

David Bailin is an artist working primarily in drawing and has over 35 years’ experience in teaching studio art. He was the director of the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (formally the Arkansas Arts Center) Museum school from 1986-1996. There he taught art to children through adults of all experience levels. After leaving the center, he was an adjunct at the University of Central Arkansas where he taught basic and figure drawing, design, art appreciation, art criticism and history until moving to Wellfleet full time in 2021. He has received painting fellowships from the NEA, the Mid-America Arts Alliance-NEA and Arkansas Arts Council. He was named an Arkansas Visionary in 2014. His work is highlighted in Rockman’s Drawing Essentials, fourth edition published by the Oxford University press, 2020 (and the updated version to be published early next year) and Steinbeck’s Creative Practices for Visual Artists, published by Focal press, 2018. His critical reviews appear in Artnews, LA Times and Weekly, and on numerous art blogs. Bailin is represented by Koplin Del Rio, Seattle, WA (formerly Los Angeles, 1982-2015) and M2 Gallery, Little Rock, AR.
