Mudheads of Charles Hawthorne with Aaron Thompson

July 5 @ 1:00 pm 4:00 pm

< Back to Workshops

Wednesday and Thursday, July 5 and 6, 1-4pm

2 sessions | $140 for members $150 for non-members + $20 model fee

The portrait will be the departure point for a discussion of simplification and abstraction in pictorial structure for this two-day workshop based on Charles Hawthorne’s color spot technique.

Through reducing the visible to its simplest terms, we will attempt to develop accuracy through layering shape into proportional constructions of the head. We will discuss issues of anatomical structure, figure-ground integration, value organization, and creation of light. Historical portraits, contemporary portraiture, and working from a model will be included. Some painting experience required; oil paint is the medium.
