Painting an Autumn Still Life with Christine Niles

Recurring event see all

October 29 @ 2:00 pm 5:00 pm

Saturday-Sunday, October 29-30, 2-5pm

2 sessions | $150 for members, $160 for non-members

As the season changes we have the opportunity to slow down and observe the fruitfulness of nature, creating paintings with reverence for the harvest.

In this workshop we will look at examples of still lifes (including originals in the PAAM collection!) to explore ways to express mood and intention through compositional and color choices. Christine will teach in oil, but students may use their medium of choice. Each day there will be either a color or compositional prompt. There will be a variety of objects, fruits and vegetables for still life set-ups. Students will walk away with an understanding of the use of color and composition to create mood in a still life painting. Students will work on a new painting each day, with the opportunity to stay and use the PAAM studio for an hour after each workshop session. The class is appropriate for artists at all levels of experience.

ABOUT THE TEACHING ARTIST

A native New Englander, Christine began her art studies at The Swain School of Design earning a BFA in painting and textile design. After many years working as a fine craft artist, Christine returned to painting. With a love for both color and nature, Christine is inspired by Cape Cod Impressionist painters. She lives in Provincetown, MA where she paints both plein air and in the studio, capturing the atmosphere and beauty that is unique to the Outer Cape. Currently her work can be viewed at Kmoe Gallery, 397 Commercial St., Provincetown.
