Pastel Landscape Painting with Jakki Kouffman

July 10 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

< Back to Workshops

Monday-Wednesday, July 10-12, 9am-12pm

3 sessions | $230 for members $250 for non-members

In this three-day workshop we will explore ways to recreate indoors the vibrancy that we experience when working outdoors (i.e., en plein air).

Using dry pigment pastel as the primary medium, this workshop will offer answers to the following questions: How do we use the three contrasts: value (light-dark), chroma (choice of hue) and intensity (saturation of chroma) to amplify the details of the chosen scene? How, then, does this knowledge improve our ability to improvise from Nature, and, therefore, to personalize the view? All skill levels and painting approaches are welcome.

Truro artist Jakki Kouffman graduated magna cum laude from Brandeis University, was awarded a one-year Sachar Fellowship to study sculpture in Pietrasanta, Italy, and studied pastel painting with Master Pastellist Daniel Greene for four years at the Art Students League of New York. She has taught plein air and studio painting in more than a dozen states (including Alaska) and in the Yukon. She recently served as the Juror of Awards at the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod Annual Members Show (PPSCC); won Best in Show at PPSCC; First Place (for a pastel and, later, for an acrylic) at two All Cape Cod Shows at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham; Best in Show and First Place at the Cape Cod Art Center in Barnstable; Best in Show at Acrylic Painters USA in Florida; and First Prize at MasterWorks of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, Pastel Society of New Mexico, and Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, and is a Juried Artist member of the Cape Cod Art Center in Barnstable. She was also elected a Master Pastellist at the Pastel Society of America in New York.
