Provincetown Houses: A Plein Air Watercolor Workshop with Tim Saternow

July 18 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

< Back to Workshops

Tuesday-Thursday, July 18-20, 9am-12pm

3 sessions | $230 for members $250 for non-members

In this workshop we will be painting the old houses of Provincetown on site, as the gorgeous light of summer reveals all their beauty and drama.

Light is the foundation of plein air painting and watercolor is the medium of light. This workshop will reveal the strength of watercolor and its translucent nature, along with its ability to build value layers with transparent washes and bursts of color.

We will learn to see sunlight and shadow, and paint them in monochrome values. Once this “grisaille” (or under-painting) is completed, adding color and further details is easy.

Each day will begin with demonstrations in the studio, and then we’ll take that idea just outside the PAAM studio. We will continue with discussions of composition along with individual guidance for each painter on their own personal paintings.
