The Freedom of the Sketchbook with Stephen Wells

October 4 @ 9:30 am 12:30 pm

< Back to Workshops

Wednesday-Friday, October 4-6, 9:30am-12:30pm

3 sessions | $230 for members $250 for non-members + $20 model fee

In this workshop, students will learn what a valuable tool a sketchbook can be.

Through different techniques we will foster a relationship between artist and their book that will hopefully last a lifetime. Over the course of three sessions students will get the chance to have three different experiences of creating their art. The first class will be focused on observational drawing techniques and take place in the classroom. The second session will be outdoors and students will explore the unique setting of Provincetown while practicing plein air drawing techniques. Our third session will feature a live clothed model and the focus will be figurative drawing in an outdoor environment. The goal of this class is for students to walk away expanding their own practice and building technique on their own. Through the nurturing group setting of the PAAM we will foster individual creativity and confidence.

Materials list: 8.5x 12 watercolor moleskine sketchbook. Watercolor travel kit. Pencil/eraser. Prismacolor color pencil 24 pack. First class: Bring an object to draw that has significance to you.

ABOUT THE TEACHING ARTIST

Born and raised on the tip of Cape Cod, self-expression and artistic collaboration are in Stephen Wells’ blood. He never takes for granted the beauty of the land and sea nor the magic of the creatures who call this sandbar home. Stephen takes pride in being a mixed media artist, with a current focus in oil and traditional white line prints. Stephen’s work centers around the ebb and flow of life on Cape Cod and features both natural majesty and rustic objects. In addition to being a working artist, Stephen has owned a frame shop in the Provincetown/Truro area since 2013 and has framed thousands of works of art from all over the world. He is also exceptionally passionate about learning, teaching and collaborating within the local art community. Stephen takes the opportunity to study white-line printing and Cape School of Art techniques with local experts every chance he gets.
