SUMMARY:Film Screening // Lyne LaPointe: The Spirit of Matter
DESCRIPTION:LYNE LAPOINTE – L’ART ET LA MATIÈREDirected by German Gutierrez | Canada | 2024 | 90 min | French\, with English Subtitles | Documentary\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a screening of the documentary Lyne Lapointe: Spirit of the Matter\, followed by a Q&A with artist Megan Hinton. \n\n\n\nIncluded with $15 Museum admission\, free for PAAM members. Doors open at 5:30pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLyne Lapointe\n\n\n\nLyne Lapointe (born in 1957\, Montreal) is one of Canada’s major multidisciplinary artist. Her influence has been felt in artistic\, feminist\, and queer circles\, as well as in the field of installation art and pictorial practices involving collage techniques with extraordinary craftsmanship. Driven by what she has termed “an archaeology of memory\,” her artisticpractice involves what has always fascinated her: female desire\, popular and historical sources\, nature\, animal and human imagery\, and\, by extension\, the precarious nature of the visible and invisible\, at the limits of the material and the perceptible. \n\n\n\nFor over forty years\, the artist has exhibited her work in Canada\, the United States\, Brazil\, and Europe. She has distinguished herself in prestigious settings such as the São Paulo Biennial\, the New Museum in New York\, and the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal\, which held a survey exhibition of her work that toured across Canada and in France. The National Gallery of Canada\, the Vancouver Art Gallery\, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts are some of the country’s leading museums that have acquired her works throughout her career.

SUMMARY:Future Art(ifacts): Practical Magic by Amy Kandall
DESCRIPTION:Local artist\, educator\, and creative vision behind Truro Clay Works\, Amy Kandall presents her installation Practical Magic. \n\n\n\nThese interactive ceramic sculptures prompt the viewer to contemplate meaning and transformation through text. This work\, which was created through a combination of hand building and wheel throwing\, has been engineered for movement and is meant to be rotated. Kandall reflects\, “when asked to make a public work about our 250th anniversary as a country\, I chose to foster compassion\, strength and community as a form of practical magic.” The artist invites the viewer to touch\, play and explore the sculpture’s meaning through its movement.  \n\n\n\nThe Future Art(ifacts) Series: \n\n\n\nAn artifact is “an object made or modified by a human being\, typically one of cultural or historical interest”. Artifacts mark important cultural and artistic expressions throughout human history\, tracing our societal values as they have changed through time. They are often found buried deep underground\, dusted off\, and encased in glass or hung on the wall of a museum\, separated by time and space by the people who made them\, leaving viewers to reckon with their meaning. The Future Art(ifacts) Series\, aims to connect the public with artists\, creators\, and thinkers making the same kind of significant contributions to culture in real time through a series of free workshops\, events\, and temporary installations held at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum during Free Friday events. \n\n\n\nAmy Kandall \n\n\n\nOriginally from New York City\, Amy Kandall has a BFA from SUNY Purchase and a MFA from Bard College. She moved to the Cape and began teaching ceramics over 25 years ago. Heavily influenced by techniques of Harry Holl and her own spiritual practice\, she began exhibiting and teaching at local institutions such as Cape Cod Museum\, PAAM Castle Hill Center for the Arts and FAWC. Currently\, Amy Kandall is teaching at Nauset Regional High School running their Ceramic\, Drawing and Painting program. Her teaching focuses on the nervous system and the process of navigating creativity in the body. Most recently her work has been exhibited at Four Eleven Gallery in Provincetown\, the Cape Cod Museum in Dennis and the Commons. She is the founder and creative director of Truro Clay Works.

SUMMARY:Concert: American and Mexican Folk Songs featuring Blair Resika
DESCRIPTION:Blair Resika is a photographer\, graphic designer\, and singer of remarkable talent. \n\n\n\nHer photographs reflect the sensibilities of a woman with a strong feel for the formal qualities of picture-making. \n\n\n\nShe has produced exceptional photography work on a range of subjects from stray dogs in Mexico to domestic life. She creates works that draw out the drama inherent in the mundane\, frequently finding and depicting deep meaning in unoccupied rooms\, simple portraits\, and pets\, among other subjects. She frequently photographs her husband\, fellow artist Paul Resika\, as he works with models. \n\n\n\n$10 Museum admission\, a benefit for PAAM.

SUMMARY:Lecture with Bill Evaul: Drawn Together - Trailblazing American Women Artists in Belle Epoch Paris
DESCRIPTION:A lecture with artist and historian Bill Evaul. Included with $15 Museum admission (free for PAAM members).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn international symposium focusing on American women artists\, with particular attention to the women artists of Provincetown\, will take place October 11–14 at Columbia University’s Global Center at Reid Hall in Montparnasse\, Paris.\n\n\n\nAmong the presenters at the symposium will be Bill Evaul\, who will explore the important role played by Provincetown’s women artists and their presence on the international stage of art and culture. \n\n\n\nUpon his return to Provincetown\, Bill will present an illustrated lecture at PAAM sharing highlights and insights from the Paris symposium\, with a particular focus on the remarkable history and contributions of Provincetown’s women artists. \n\n\n\nThe setting for the Paris symposium is especially significant. From 1893 to 1914\, Reid Hall was known as the “American Girls’ Art Club\,” an affordable and secure residence for women artists. It provided a restaurant\, studios\, exhibition space\, a conference hall\, and private gardens—all in the heart of Paris’s Left Bank\, where many of the era’s progressive artistic ideas and movements were taking shape. \n\n\n\nBill’s lecture at PAAM will bring this fascinating history home\, connecting the story of Reid Hall and the international community of American women artists with the extraordinary artistic legacy of Provincetown. \n\n\n\nBill Evaul is a painter and printmaker who studied at Syracuse University\, the Whitney Museum and Pratt Institute with Jacob Landau and George McNeil. He received two fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and has lived and worked on outer Cape Cod ever since\, giving lectures\, leading workshops\, producing artwork in a variety of media\, and specializing in the white-line woodcut. As a contributing writer for Print Review and other magazines\, he produced reviews and scholarly articles\, including The Provincetown Printers: Genesis of a Unique Woodcut Tradition\, which helped in the revival of the obscure and nearly lost technique. Evaul’s work is in numerous public collections including The Museum of Fine Art Boston\, The Library of Congress\, Robert Blackburn’s Printmaking Workshop\, The Zimmerli Museum of Art at Rutgers University\, The Georgia Museum of Art\, The Sunrise Art Museum\, The Kresge Art Museum\, and The Provincetown Art Association and Museum.

SUMMARY:A Holly Folly Workshop: Make Your Own Pinhole Camera
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the PAAM Museum School during Holly Folly weekend! $40\, register here.\n\n\n\nIn this approachable\, hands-on workshop taught by PAAM’s Curator of Museum Education\, Milisa Moses\, you’ll build your own pinhole camera and learn how to create and “develop” photographs using just a few easy-to-find materials. You’ll also take home a copy of This Book Is a Camera\, a clever pop-up book by designer Kelli Anderson that\, just as its title suggests\, is a working camera! Give it as a gift or keep it for yourself.  \n\n\n\nAll materials provided.  \n\n\n\nTeaching Artist Bio: Milisa Moses is a gardener\, writer\, educator\, and process-based interdisciplinary artist. Her work is facilitated by celestial cues\, Fibonacci sequence\, the dawn chorus: nature’s vernacular spoken through light and dark\, pattern and sound. Milisa’s work is shown at Farm Projects gallery in Wellfleet\, MA.\, and she has been featured in Gardenista\, Remodelista\, Design New England\, the Provincetown Independent\, and Edible Cape Cod. Her book\, Ocean Effect: Four Seasons on Cape Cod\, will be published by Timber Press summer 2027.
