SUMMARY:Film Screening // Lyne LaPointe: The Spirit of Matter
DESCRIPTION:LYNE LAPOINTE – L’ART ET LA MATIÈREDirected by German Gutierrez | Canada | 2024 | 90 min | French\, with English Subtitles | Documentary\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a screening of the documentary Lyne Lapointe: Spirit of the Matter\, followed by a Q&A with artist Megan Hinton. \n\n\n\nIncluded with $15 Museum admission\, free for PAAM members. Doors open at 5:30pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLyne Lapointe\n\n\n\nLyne Lapointe (born in 1957\, Montreal) is one of Canada’s major multidisciplinary artist. Her influence has been felt in artistic\, feminist\, and queer circles\, as well as in the field of installation art and pictorial practices involving collage techniques with extraordinary craftsmanship. Driven by what she has termed “an archaeology of memory\,” her artisticpractice involves what has always fascinated her: female desire\, popular and historical sources\, nature\, animal and human imagery\, and\, by extension\, the precarious nature of the visible and invisible\, at the limits of the material and the perceptible. \n\n\n\nFor over forty years\, the artist has exhibited her work in Canada\, the United States\, Brazil\, and Europe. She has distinguished herself in prestigious settings such as the São Paulo Biennial\, the New Museum in New York\, and the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal\, which held a survey exhibition of her work that toured across Canada and in France. The National Gallery of Canada\, the Vancouver Art Gallery\, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts are some of the country’s leading museums that have acquired her works throughout her career.

SUMMARY:Future Art(ifacts): Practical Magic by Amy Kandall
DESCRIPTION:Local artist\, educator\, and creative vision behind Truro Clay Works\, Amy Kandall presents her installation Practical Magic. \n\n\n\nThese interactive ceramic sculptures prompt the viewer to contemplate meaning and transformation through text. This work\, which was created through a combination of hand building and wheel throwing\, has been engineered for movement and is meant to be rotated. Kandall reflects\, “when asked to make a public work about our 250th anniversary as a country\, I chose to foster compassion\, strength and community as a form of practical magic.” The artist invites the viewer to touch\, play and explore the sculpture’s meaning through its movement.  \n\n\n\nThe Future Art(ifacts) Series: \n\n\n\nAn artifact is “an object made or modified by a human being\, typically one of cultural or historical interest”. Artifacts mark important cultural and artistic expressions throughout human history\, tracing our societal values as they have changed through time. They are often found buried deep underground\, dusted off\, and encased in glass or hung on the wall of a museum\, separated by time and space by the people who made them\, leaving viewers to reckon with their meaning. The Future Art(ifacts) Series\, aims to connect the public with artists\, creators\, and thinkers making the same kind of significant contributions to culture in real time through a series of free workshops\, events\, and temporary installations held at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum during Free Friday events. \n\n\n\nAmy Kandall \n\n\n\nOriginally from New York City\, Amy Kandall has a BFA from SUNY Purchase and a MFA from Bard College. She moved to the Cape and began teaching ceramics over 25 years ago. Heavily influenced by techniques of Harry Holl and her own spiritual practice\, she began exhibiting and teaching at local institutions such as Cape Cod Museum\, PAAM Castle Hill Center for the Arts and FAWC. Currently\, Amy Kandall is teaching at Nauset Regional High School running their Ceramic\, Drawing and Painting program. Her teaching focuses on the nervous system and the process of navigating creativity in the body. Most recently her work has been exhibited at Four Eleven Gallery in Provincetown\, the Cape Cod Museum in Dennis and the Commons. She is the founder and creative director of Truro Clay Works.
