On view November 19-January 9, 2022

The Annual Small Works Exhibition is a fantastic venue for holiday shopping! If you purchase a piece, you can bring it home with you that same day instead of waiting for the conclusion of the exhibition.

Each year PAAM mounts upwards of 5 members’ open and juried exhibitions in which participants display their work alongside some of America’s most noteworthy artists. These exhibitions represent the work of PAAM’s contemporary artist-members, many of whom live on Cape Cod either full-time or for part of the year. While the work varies greatly in media and approach, each artist-member joins a long roster of distinguished artists who have studied, taught, and exhibited at PAAM over the past 100 years. There is no submission fee for members’ exhibitions, but membership must be up to date.

In the 1970’s, the PAAM membership voted to present “open” exhibitions, allowing any and all members to exhibit their work in PAAM’s galleries throughout the year. Members’ Open Exhibitions represent an eclectic and extensive body of work displayed in salon style – that is, works that are stacked and tend to blanket the walls, versus the minimalist presentation most often seen in contemporary art galleries and museums. This practice was begun in Paris, France in the 19th century, where work was hung floor to ceiling and great paintings rubbed shoulders with the work of new and evolving artists.

Artist Guidelines

Any PAAM member in good standing is eligible to submit work to member exhibitions. Membership must be valid through the duration of the exhibition (January 2022), meaning some may need to renew before their current membership expires (those memberships will be extended to January 2023).

This is an open exhibition, meaning all work that fits the artwork requirements (see below) is accepted. One submission/artist.

Anyone may join or renew at any time online (here), by phone (508-487-1750), or at the Front Desk during Museum hours.

We are holding two Drop-Off Days for this exhibition: Monday, November 15 and Tuesday, November 16 from 11am-2pm. You may also drop off work the weekend prior during Museum hours, Thursday-Sunday from 12-5pm. We’ll have membership forms and Artwork Receipts at Drop-Off, but you can speed up the process by submitting both online ahead of time (no same-day form submissions, please). See Artwork Receipt below.

Shipped works must arrive by Tuesday, November 16. Please submit the Artwork Receipt and be sure to indicate your name on your shipped piece so that we can match it with your receipt.

For this exhibition, work must not exceed 20″ in any direction, including the frame. Work must be dry, and, if possible, affixed with a hanging device. There is no theme.
