The Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Museum School at PAAM serves students of all experience levels, offering year-round programming in painting, printmaking, drawing, mixed media, and professional development. Workshops often utilize PAAM’s permanent collection, revolving exhibitions, and archival resources. 

Summary of Position:

Department: Education | Location: Provincetown, Massachusetts | Hours: Part-time | Reporting to: Curator of Community Education and Curator of Museum Education

The role of Museum School Coordinator is a year-round part-time position (24 hours per week) designed to support the needs of the Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed School and optimize the success of Museum and Community Educational Programming at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. This role directly supports the Curators of Community and Museum Education with the implementation of studio arts and museum programming for all audiences, including adults, museum patrons, families, and K-12 audiences. During educational programming, coordinator help facilitate classes, including monitoring arrival and dismissal, coordinating room use, preparing supplies, and working directly with students. The Museum School Coordinator is also responsible for the organization of supplies and management, upkeep, and presentation of studio classrooms. 

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Assist and engage with students and teaching artists before, during, and after workshops
  • Work as a teaching assistant in youth programs and workshops (Art Reach, Little Artists, School Groups, and new initiatives, etc.)  
  • Book and facilitate school group tours. 
  • Update Museum tour scripts as exhibitions change over 
  • Managing Studios: restocking supplies, maintaining the studio and supply closet organization, helping to set up and take down studios for classes, running studio laundry
  • Help maintain safety and maintenance of print shop and studios.
  • Complete administrative tasks like processing registrations, making studio schedules, managing snack and lunch purchases, sending out student surveys, etc. 
  • Assist in outreach and marketing museum education offerings 
  • Assist in overseeing year-round Chester I Solomon Life Drawing Program.  
  • Collaborate with Facilities Manager to maintain cleanliness and appearance of studios

Education and Qualifications:

Nice to Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art, Museum Studies, Education, Arts Administration, or related field of study.
  • Experience with printmaking and printing presses
  • Interest or knowledge of museum spaces 
  • Experience working with the public 
  • Interest in bringing forward new studio and museum education initiatives 

Must Haves:

  • Experience or interest in working with youth
  • Experience working in an art studio setting  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Well organized and able to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule including working on Saturdays for part of the year
  • Creativity, positive attitude, interpersonal skills, and energetic and flexible mindset
  • Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated, and work independently 
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds, move tables and easels, transport art supplies 
  • Housing on Cape Cod
