In-Depth Introduction to Relief Printmaking with Antonia DaSilva

April 16 @ 10:00 am 1:00 pm

< Back to Workshops

Tuesday-Friday, April 16-19, 10am-1pm

4 sessions | $330 for members, $355 for non-members*

This workshop is for all those who have been curious about relief printing or want a review.

We will dive in by making small, simple carvings and printing them as a group. Students will then be able to develop a more complex image with woodblocks. Demonstrations will include image transfer, carving, registration, multiple color printing, inking, printing with a press and by hand. We will also discuss the types of images that lend themselves well to relief printing and approaches that one can take to make a complex image using only one block. While this workshop will focus primarily on woodblock printing, participants will also have the opportunity to test out some unusual relief printing surfaces.

*All specialty woodblocks and supplies included in price of workshop, except for printmaking paper which is available to purchase at cost, and tools, which we recommend you purchase. Antonia recommends this set: Five Piece Power Grip Carving Set (Japan Import)
