The Provincetown Art Association and Museum is a nationally recognized, year-round cultural institution that fuses the creative energy of America’s oldest continuous art colony with the natural beauty of Outer Cape Cod that has inspired artists for generations.

The Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Museum School at PAAM serves students of all experience levels, offering year-round programming in painting, printmaking, drawing, mixed media, and professional development. Workshops often utilize PAAM’s permanent collection, revolving exhibitions, and archival resources.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The role of a Studio and Museum School Coordinator is to support the needs of the Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed School and optimize the success of Museum and Community Educational Programming at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. This role directly supports the Curators of Community and Museum Education with the implementation of studio arts and museum programming for all audiences, including adults, museum patrons, families, and K-12 audiences. During educational programming, the coordinator helps to facilitate classes, including monitoring arrival and dismissal, coordinating room use, preparing supplies, and working directly with students. The coordinator is also responsible for the organization of supplies and management, upkeep, and presentation of studio classrooms.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist and engage with students and teaching artists before, during, and after workshops.
  • Work as a teaching assistant in youth programs and workshops (Art Reach, Little Artists, School Groups, and new initiatives, etc.).
  • Manage Studios: restock supplies, maintain the studio and supply closet organization, help to set up and take down studios for classes, run studio laundry.
  • Help maintain safety and maintenance of print shop and manage print shop rental inquiries.
  • Complete administrative tasks like processing registrations, making studio schedules, managing snack and lunch purchases, sending out student surveys, etc.
  • Assist in overseeing the year-round Chester I Solomon Life Drawing Program.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Manager to maintain cleanliness of studios.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art, Museum Studies, Education, Arts Administration, or related field of study.
  • Experience with printmaking and printing presses.
  • Interest or knowledge of museum spaces.
  • Ability to commit to two full years.

Required qualifications:

  • Experience or interest in working with youth.
  • Experience working in an art studio setting.
  • Interest in creating and teaching art workshops.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule including working on Saturdays for part of the year.
  • Creativity, positive Attitude, interpersonal skills, and energetic and flexible mindset.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds, move tables and easels, transport art supplies.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office and Google suites.
