Provincetown Art Association and Museum is a nationally recognized, year-round cultural institution that fuses the creative energy of America’s oldest continuous art colony with the natural beauty of Outer Cape Cod that has inspired artists for generations.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Visitors to the Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) have their first interaction with the person who is at the front desk.  This position represents PAAM in an approachable and confident manner in all encounters at the museum. This position also performs cashier duties and provides information to visitors of the Museum.  This position serves as lead person accepting admissions and is responsible for accurate cash accounting and reporting.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that each Museum visitor receives outstanding customer service by providing a welcoming environment which includes maintaining the highest possible standards of professionalism through the acknowledgment and greeting of every museum visitor; answering questions regarding the museum as well as other local attractions, and maintaining thorough knowledge of all current museum exhibitions.
  • Process all sales transactions and maintain proper cash accountabilities at register, including membership renewals. Perform cashier functions and complete various reports including, but not limited to final daily cash reconciliation and weekly reporting.
  • Provide general safety and security functions for day to day activities at the Museum.  This includes providing a safe atmosphere for patrons or anyone requiring special accommodation.
  • Partner with Artistic/Programming staff to ensure that programs increasingly reflect the constituencies the organization aims to serve.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of product, museum layout and store/museum policies. Maintains displays and inventory.
  • Receive and document admissions from members for exhibitions.
  • Open and close public entrance and front desk in accordance with scheduled hours.
  • Assist museum staff and security with event setup and tour groups as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School Graduate /GED

Knowledge and Experience:

Previous retail experience, or customer service equivalent

Must be able to operate a computerized point-of-sale system (POS)

Knowledge of cash handling procedures

Must be personable, congenial, and hospitable to all

Work varied hours/days as business dictates

Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision at times

Must be able to communicate clearly with a friendly attitude

Knowledge of Provincetown art history

Interest in Art, Art History and Museums

Problem-solving ability
