Practice is the act of rehearsing a behavior repeatedly, to help learn and eventually master a skill. The word derives from the Greek… “πρακτικός” (praktikos)” fit for or concerned with action, practical”, and from the verb “πράσσω” (prasso), “to achieve, bring about, effect, accomplish” (Wikipedia).

Guided by artist Laura Shabott, participants will examine the elements that make up a contemporary practice: artmaking, shows, curation, teaching, writing, community, recognition, representation, and more.

You will ask yourself: Am I someone who needs to apply for artist residencies and grants to feel fulfilled? Do I want awards and recognition for my work and contributions? How much time do I really have to make art, and how do I maximize that time?  You will leave with increased clarity about who you are as a creative person.

Please bring a notebook or writing paper, and a writing utensil.
