In-Depth Introduction to Portrait Drawing with Valerie Isaacs

Come enjoy drawing from models in this class designed to get you started with portraiture.

Drawing in pencil and charcoal, learn simplicity for volume and perspective; contour drawing for expression; measuring for accurate likeness. We will also work on rendering light and shade, as well as anatomy basics. And we will study portrait examples from art history, including in-person viewing of portraiture in the PAAM collection.

ABOUT THE TEACHING ARTIST

Valerie Isaacs holds a BA in Architecture from Penn State. She has worked as an artist since 1989 in Spain, Charleston SC, and Cambridge MA before moving to Provincetown in 2017. Isaacs trained in drawing and etching in Seville, in painting at the Fleisher Art Memorial (Philadelphia PA) and with Douglas Balentine (Charleston SC). She teaches drawing for beginners, figure drawing, and landscape painting.
